This is my mantra when ever anything in life goes askew….. And for some reason it always works.
Sometimes I say it to people I don’t know that well: just breathe and they look at me funny…. but it works. They calm down in a frantic moment and gain a little perspective.
Like many people I know, I have a tendency to unconsciously hold my breathe in moments of strain, concentration or focus. As it it would help me. But I know it doesn’t. In yoga, the teachers are always saying “breathe normally, in through the nose, out through the nose”. The idea is that if you are panting, holding your breathe or are out of breathe, you are trying too hard. Perhaps this concept covers all aspects of life. Maybe we are all trying far to hard, holding our breathe, pushing and forcing for things to happen how we think they should.
What if we just breathe. Normally. And let things happen. Show up. Do our thing. Try. A little. But not too hard. Just enough.
And breathe…..just remember to breathe. The rest will take care of itself.
“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.“ Oprah
