You know what I’ve been really looking forward to? Something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the past month,¬†especially? Doing a detox, or a cleansing fast. I like to do one every 6 to 12 months and haven’t had a chance, until now, to do another one since the Diary of a 10 Day Master Cleanse, that I wrote in April last year.
So much has happened in my life in this past year, and I can just feel my body craving to be reset and to release the old to make space for the new. In this past year I encountered a tumultuous, beautiful, passionate and yet sad love story, I travelled almost non-stop through 15 countries in both Europe and then Central America, got food poisoning a few times in the last couple of months as well as grew my business in leaps and bounds, all of which has cumulated in me, and especially my body needing a rest, a break from it all, and some deep nurturing.
Today is the day. I’m starting my 10 day Empowerment Detox.
I don’t do detoxes merely for the physical benefits, although those are beautiful and satisfying, which include a healthier digestive system, clear skin and eyes, and weight regulation. Detoxing helps your body find it’s natural, healthy equilibrium in that it removes toxic waste from your system and can help you loose weight if you have excess or put on weight if your body naturally requires more. You feel lighter, healthier and bouncier with so much more energy as well as happier after a good internal cleanse!
But no, that’s not my main notion, though a welcome and wonderful reason. What I really love about this physical internal detox is the mental, emotional and spiritual clarity you gain from giving yourself a break from taking in all the external input that we are surrounded by. Not only do you stop eating solid foods, but you also take a break from allowing too much noise, entertainment and social commitments to come between you and your connection with self. Doing detoxes really highlights the distinct connection between body, mind and soul and how quickly information and action travels between all those parts of ourselves.
Detoxes are empowering. They help you lean back into your seat of power by recognising that the mind is not the controlling force of your life and thoughts are just thoughts, and something you can change. You are empowered because you no longer allow your eating habits to sway and control your day to day life and recognise that the body is so very wise, and if you would just listen to it a little more, how much clearer and simpler life becomes. The fasting process clears so many of the emotional blocks that are being stored in your body, which is something that I’m really looking forward to, after the year that I’ve just had! Those emotional blockages often show themselves as physicalities with aches, pains, headaches, poor sleep patterns and unconscious negative thought patterns that arise, which you may not have been aware of previously. You become empowered as you release all those things in your body, mind and soul that have been holding you back.
I have spent the last three days preparing to commence my detox by cutting out wheat, meat, processed food, alcohol, coffee and refined sugars and just eating lightly: mostly fresh foods, salads, fruit and teas. I’ve also found a favourite corner in the house to journal in, stocked up on lemons, raw organic honey and all the other ingredients necessary to complete this cleanse, and researched local, recommended massage and colonic clinics. This upcoming fasting and detoxifying time is going to be deeply enriching, centering and nurturing for my whole being, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Over the next two weeks I will be sharing a few updates as I go through my detox process, and also writing the Empowerment Lemon Detox guide. This is for those of you who often email me about how to go about doing your own inner cleanse, which will provide a full outline as well as emotional and spiritual support, as you go through your detox process. Feel free to write in to studio@viendamaria.com with questions for me to answer about doing detoxes and the many different elements involved, so I can include all the frequently asked thoughts that you may have into upcoming blog posts and the Empowerment Detox Guide. I’m so excited and happy to be able to help and guide you through this beautiful, satisfying and magical process. And I’m even more thrilled to finally do a detox again myself! Wish me luck!
